Update news
Well, I’ve updated my main site with something a bit different than what I’ve been doing. So far, I’ve been using a monochromatic color scheme and now I am just elated to say that I have something a bit more colorful in the works.
It isn’t easy, that’s for sure. The documentation is lousy at best, but I’ve manage to muddle through it and get it going. I had a lot of extra features I wanted to implement but shopping carts cost monthly fees and they just feel so impersonal. Plus, there is room for error. I would like my main site to be as static as it can be. Seeing as how I work off of services and appointments instead of keeping stock, I figured a contact page is suitable for my situation.
Developing has been fun, it’s interesting to see the evolution of all the framework and how each one is doing it’s own thing. Like I stated earlier, it sure isn’t easy.
Thankfully there are plenty of examples and I just work at it until it gets going then try to understand why it works after the fact.
Development is counter-intuitive and I found myself breaking all sorts of programming rules to get the site going which theoretically it shouldn’t work but it ends up being the correct way to do it. CNAME flattening for the root domain, all kinds of stuff like that. Furthermore, who knows what the compiler is actually doing when I run it through. But, it works!
I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot and the graphics and overall presentation of my sites look amazing. I’m glad to be developing. I’ve grown a new appreciation for CMS systems and will definitely build customer sites using something like wordpress or something a bit more sane than all this framework I’ve been using. Simply for the fact that they just work and are programmed in. You don’t need to mess with the code too much. If the need arises I can whip something together but I’ll just have to cross that bridge when I get there.
For now, my main goals are SEO and google maps listings. I was recently approached by someone who offered that type of service and tried to work out a trade. I wouldn’t mind trading some services for SEO services. At this rate though, I’m still pulling out my hair trying to figure out why they are listing things. It’s a mystery and anyone who is knowledgable will tell you, it’s a hard process.
